Show: 3 p.m. Gates: 2 p.m. ABOUT TROMBONE SHORTY:
Few artists embody the heart and soul of their city like Trombone Shorty. Perhaps the most recognizable ambassador for New Orleans music working today, Shorty has spent his entire life not only carrying the torch for Crescent City culture, but also propelling it forward into the 21st century with his ecstatic live performances and intoxicating blend of rock, funk, soul, jazz, blues, hip-hop, and Caribbean influences.
Trombone Shorty (Troy Andrews) and his band, Orleans Avenue, consistently earn rave reviews for their explosive, genre-bending live performances. Critics and fans praise his staggering musicianship, soaring brass solos, and relentless, high-energy stage presence. Andrews sings, dances and seamlessly switches between trombone and trumpet.
Andrews got his start and his stage name at the age of 4 when he was brought up onstage to play with Bo Diddley at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Born on Jan. 2, 1986 in New Orleans’ culturally rich Treme’ neighborhood, Andrews grew up in a musical family; both parents were musicians as were his siblings, cousins and grandfather. He played in brass band parades as a child and became a bandleader at age 6. He was featured in a Disney film as a child musician.

In his teen years, he was a member of the Stooges Brass Band, played in his parents’ nightclub named Trombone Shorty’s, and attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. Andrews was mentored by Cyril Neville, of the famed Neville Brothers band.
In 2005, Andrews became a featured member of Lenny Kravitz’s horn section on a world tour. That same year he appeared in the documentary Make It Funky!, about the history of New Orleans music. Since then he has appeared in dozens of films and TV shows. He’s performed and/or recorded with music stars including: Ringo Starr, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, U2, Dave Matthews Band, Dave Grohl & Foo Fighters, Galactic, Dr. John, Madonna, Queen Latifah and many more.
He has performed at the White House several times and has entertained during NBA games. He has countless recordings to his credit, both as the lead artist and as a support player.
Andrews is a philanthropist and has established the Horns for Schools project to bring quality instruments to New Orleans students. He’s performed for benefit concerts and created the Trombone Shorty Foundation in 2012, which went on to partner with Tulane University to create and after school academy to mentor high school students studying music. The Trombone Shorty Foundation hosts an annual event and cultural exchange in Cuba to conduct workshops and perform in concerts with hundreds of students.
