HOT SHOW - June 26: Dave Weld & The Imperial Flames at Buddy Guy's Legends

Dave Weld & the Imperial Flames will celebrate the release of their new Delmark Records CD, Nightwalk, at Buddy's on Sunday June 26, 2022.

Show: 9 p.m.

Dave Weld and The Imperial Flames, are an authentic, real deal blues band, bursting with high energy, versatile talent, variety, and a cohesive show that includes original driving houserockin’ blues, boogie and soul. The originals are classic in nature, the standards are revitalized with striking three-part vocal harmony and three vocal stylists. Led by passionate slide guitarist, Dave Weld (who was mentored by Grammy winning, blues slide master J.B. Hutto), along with blues diva and two time RAMI award winner Mona Rose (Monica Myhre), a rock rhythm section consisting of the creamy voice of Jeff Taylor holding a solid beat on drums and Kenny Pickens blazing on bass. Also hitting the ivory is Harry YaSeen, tutored by the famous Art Hodes on piano/organ, and the Mississippi saxman, Rogers Randle.

Nightwalk is the third Delmark album for Dave Weld and the Imperial Flames.

Deepening on the furrows opened by previous albums, Burnin’ Love and Slip Into a Dream, Dave, Monica and their band weave an original tapestry of pure Chicago blues tradition with a forward-looking sound and energy. Bringing along the beauty of the tradition he learned next to Chicago blues stalwart J.B. Hutto, Dave Weld is one of the few real innovators in the blues realm of today. His song “Mary Who” is an authentic tour de force, a vivid portrait of urban life where Dave Weld shows his metal as storyteller. Moreover, in every single track of this ground-breaking album, we can relate to the vibrations of contemporary life blowing like a fresh breeze from the depths of a well-rooted sonority. The album was recorded at Joyride Studio, mixed at The Switchyard Studio in Nashville, produced by Grammy winner (Buddy Guy, Kingfish) Tom Hambridge and post-produced at Delmark Records Riverside Studio by Elbio Barilari and Julia A. Miller, who was also the album’s mastering engineer.
